Encounter with self-dialysis

An incident at a dialysis
medical
institution in France.

About 10 years ago, I visited a dialysis facility in France with a patient and the scene was so impressive that I still remember it vividly.

In France, there is a facility where patients perform dialysis themselves, which can be said to be the prototype of self-dialysis, and I toured there.
The facility was small but spacious, and the interior didn't smell like a hospital in the slightest.

When I visited, a male dialysis patient was stuffing his face with a large French bread sandwich. A little further away, there was a young man who was enthusiastically working on a computer while undergoing dialysis. When I asked him what he was doing, he replied, ``I'm a graduate student majoring in robotics, and I'm writing a paper while I'm on dialysis,'' his intellectual face filled with a smile. From the way they looked at each other, I realized that if they were not on dialysis, they would be living fulfilling lives, just like normal people.

The medical systems in Japan and France are different. Also, of course, they are dialysis patients, so they are different from healthy people. However, it is up to the patient to decide how to increase the value of the four hours of dialysis. Considering that creating a system to increase the value of time can greatly change a patient's life, I believe that it is most important to increase their degree of freedom as much as possible.

This was the moment I realized how important a free and comfortable space is for dialysis treatment.
